Instrument Scan Challenge BETA
After a GET READY and 3, 2, 1 countdown, follow an animated close-up scan across a classic single-engine trainer panel. The view pauses on every gauge before moving on. When it fades, identify every problem you remember.
Take a free five-question challenge.
Each question begins with the full panel. The view zooms into the top-left gauge, moves and pauses through every gauge in a Z-shaped pattern twice, returns to the full panel for three seconds, and then fades away. Some panels have more than one problem.
- Scan both the primary flight instruments and the engine/system gauges.
- After the panel vanishes, select every problem you noticed.
- No clues appear automatically. You may replay the panel or reveal flight context, but either aid reduces the points available for that question.
- A correct unaided diagnosis earns 10 points. A panel replay costs 3 points and a context hint costs 2 points. Your score and personal best appear at the end.
Turn your phone sideways for the best scan. Landscape view makes every gauge easier to see.

No hint or flight context is shown automatically.

Training note
This game uses original reusable SVG instruments inspired by a classic Cessna 172S panel. The airspeed indicator uses 172S color ranges; actual panels, markings, limitations, and procedures vary by aircraft. Use the POH for the airplane you fly, approved checklists, and qualified flight instruction for real operations.
Instrument concepts are based on the local HTML edition of FAA Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, Chapter 8 and the FAA Instrument Flying Handbook.
