Sectional Symbols Challenge

Choose one of 25 busy real-world areas. A chart symbol pulses while the view slowly zooms in for eight seconds. The chart then disappears and you identify what the symbol means—not the name of the local airport or landmark.

25 FAA-BASED AREAS OF INTEREST

Learn what the sectional’s symbols mean.

  • Each area is an all-SVG reconstruction of a current FAA sectional raster crop.
  • Answers describe the type of symbol—for example, “public-use airport,” “VORTAC,” “Class B shelf altitude notation,” or “lighted tower”—never a local facility name.
  • The activity spans landing-site symbols, navaids, airspace boundaries and shelf notations, towers and obstructions, Victor airways, military routes, special-use airspace, VFR waypoints, landmarks, and terrain/elevation symbology.
  • The symbol is isolated in a pulsing SVG focus group and the final zoom is closer for small chart marks. There are no arrows or pointers covering the chart.
  • You get eight seconds to observe, including a slow close-up and a final hold. Your answer is untimed, with one click per symbol.
  • Your last score and running average stay in this browser so you can watch your recognition improve.

These SVG training reproductions are based on official FAA VFR Sectional raster charts and FAA aeronautical datasets. They preserve chart detail for rapid-recognition practice, but they are not current navigation products and must not be used for flight planning or navigation.
